“La French Tech”, France’s national tech and startup scene, is a distinct development that brings together startups, investors, policymakers, and community builders. It has become a global network with communities around the world, and its mission is to make France one of the greatest places in the world to launch and grow global companies that make sense for the future.
Chicago has become known as the startup capital of the Midwest United States. This year, Chicago joined a global list of French Tech Hubs around the world who have been recognized as leaders in innovation and technology. The La French Tech Chicago community was established for French entrepreneurs looking to distinguish themselves. Michael Fassnacht, Interim President and CEO of World Business Chicago and the first-ever Chief Marketing Officer for the City of Chicago has stated, “Chicago joining the global La French Tech network will only accelerate our thriving innovation ecosystems, drive growth and opportunity for our innovative ventures and residents.”
This announcement in April 2021, was led by the latest drive from Chicago’s tech community. Chicago startups raised more than $2 billion in VC funding in just Q1 2021, which was already putting them on target to match the nearly $2 billion fundraised in 2020 alone. As of October 2021, Chicago has already almost doubled its annual record for VC funding. Chicago companies have already netted $5.5 billion in deals, which is an 84.4 percent increase over its annual record, according to the Q3 edition of the PitchBook-NVCA Venture Monitor. Chicago is projected to break its annual record by a higher percentage than San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the global French tech ecosystem to build stronger relationships with Chicago as a Midwest tech powerhouse,” said the Consul General of France. “La French Tech represents France’s thriving startup scene and I’m proud to see Chicago part of this unique movement to help French entrepreneurs scale in the Midwest”. For 25 years, Paris and Chicago have been “Sister Cities”, and the La French Tech Community, including World Business Chicago, will continue to drive partnership opportunities between Chicago and French tech communities.
At DSML, as we conduct executive search recruitment in Chicago, Boston, and across the US, we focus on nurturing our client relationships while leveraging modern technologies. We recruit for European companies doing business in the US, and we have experience working with various French Tech clients.
